All About VCC Internal Competitions with Jill Turyk

About This Workshop

Jill Turyk will share essential information on how to participate in VCC Internal Competitions, and to understand the club’s internal competition process. This workshop is designed for members who are new to the VCC Internal Competitions process and open to members at all competition levels.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS AN IN-PERSON WORKSHOP, to be held from 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM in Room 200, Fisher Building, Camosun College Lansdowne Campus (3100 Foul Bay Road).

During this two-hour session, Jill will outline the competition process, including the following topics:

  • Planning ahead for competitions
  • Reviewing for technical issues
  • Naming your photos

  • Size limitations for digital and print submissions
  • Overview of judges 

3.  Submitting Your Work

  • How to upload an image into a competition
  • How to prepare and submit a print into a competition
  • What happens to the file between the time it was uploaded to the competition and when results are revealed on competitions night

 About Jill Turyk

Jill has been a member of the Victoria Camera Club since 2014.  She was a member of the Internal Competitions Committee for about seven years, including 2 years as the Committee Chair. She was also one of the judges of Novice submissions for two years. 

Jill spent some time working on the Workshops Committee as well.  She has contributed to the club in other ways as well by authoring articles for Close-Up magazine and submitting her work into club print shows.  Jill has also presented several workshops to the club on a variety of topics over the years.

As an active competitor in internal and external competitions, Jill began at the Novice level, working her way to Advanced a few years ago.  She is a member of CAPA and submits as an individual to many of those competitions and to other competitions such as the Toronto Salon.

She has enjoyed shooting many genres, however the challenge of photographing wildlife, particularly birds in flight, has become her passion in the last few years.
